Air Force networks to get automatic monitoring

The Air Force has awarded Telos Corp. a $7.4 million contract under its Network Centric Solutions (NETCENTS) contract vehicle.

Under the contract, Telos will design, install and train Air Force network operators in the use of Adaptive Thresholding & Performance Profiling (ATPP), which automatically monitors network performance in real time and alerts operators when operating thresholds are affected by system stress. Also, ATPP will monitor system performance over time, collecting data that can be used to establish more accurate alert levels.

Automating the monitoring of Air Force network performance improves access to mission critical applications, said retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Jim Morehouse, who serves as Telos’ NETCENTS program manager. “It provides the warfighter with timely, accurate and secure Agile Combat Support information needed to execute the Air Force mission,” he said in a news release.

Telos will install ATPP in each of the 10 Air Force network operations security centers (NOSCs) located at major commands as well as at the network operations training center at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.

The contract falls under the Combat Information Transport System program office. CITS is the Air Force initiative intended to provide a high-speed, broadband, digital information transport system. It seeks to integrate all existing data systems with voice, video, imagery, sensor systems and classified systems.

CITS is based at the Air Force’s Electronic Systems Center at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. The $1.2 billion program has been called the largest IT infrastructure program in the history of the Air Force.

Large business NETCENTS contractors include General Dynamics, Booz Allen Hamilton, NGC, and Lockheed Martin. Besides Telos, other small business contractors include Centech Group, Multimax and NCI.
