Denett confirmation hearing slated for next week

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold Paul Denett’s confirmation hearing June 20.

President Bush nominated Denett in April to be administrator of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy within the Office of Management and Budget.

Many people in the procurement community hailed the nomination of Denett, a longtime veteran of government procurement positions who later became vice president of contracting programs at ESI International.

Denett worked at the Agriculture Department, then moved to the Treasury Department, where he directed the Office of Procurement. In 1993, he was director of administration and the senior procurement executive at the Interior Department, according to a biography posted on a government Web site dedicated to the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Program, which Denett supported.

More recently, he has served as vice president of contracting programs at ESI, a company based in Arlington, Va., that provides training in contract and project management and business analysis training.

“He’s a good guy, well-qualified, very ethical,” Bill Gormley, president and chief executive officer of the Washington Management Group, said in a previous interview. “He has a well-rounded procurement background.”

The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. at 342 Dirksen Senate Office Building.
