GSA names new citizen services head

David Bethel is the new associate administrator of the General Services Administration’s Office of Citizen Services and Communications. He succeeds M.J. Pizzella, who left the agency June 30.

“I am confident that as GSA moves forward to face new challenges, David’s extensive expertise and depth of commitment will prove to be valuable assets,” GSA Administrator Lurita Doan said.

Bethel will be responsible for an office that focuses on making government more citizen-centered and results-oriented. It is also expanding the use of Web technology to enhance e-government. The office gives the public easier ways to get federal government information.

As principal communications executive for the agency, Bethel will also serve as GSA’s primary spokesman and will advise the administrator on communications and all matters of general public interest.

With more than 25 years’ experience in politics and government, Bethel most recently served as GSA’s deputy associate administrator of communications at the citizen services office.
