GSA names new regional administrator

Following its string of recent changes, the General Services Administration named Emily Baker its regional administrator for the Northeast and Caribbean Region, the agency announced today.

In her new role, effective July 9, Baker will oversee 750 employees in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, GSA stated in a press release.

Major projects lay in Baker’s future, “including the expansion of border stations along the U.S./Canadian border, the construction of a new federal courthouse in Buffalo [N.Y.] the return of tenants to the World Trade Center site and the development of the new U.S. Mission to the United Nations,” GSA stated.

“I witnessed Emily’s work ethic and expertise firsthand during my Senate confirmation process and am excited she’s agreed to take on this formidable challenge,” GSA Administrator Lurita Doan said. “I have the utmost confidence in her ability to lead the region, build consensus on critical issues and to make other valuable contributions as a member of GSA’s leadership team.”

Since 2005, Baker has been a senior adviser to GSA’s Northeast and Caribbean Regional administrator. Before that, she was deputy director for congressional and intergovernmental affairs at the Commerce Department.

Baker said she looks forward to her new role at the agency. “Doan has set forth an exciting vision for GSA and I hope to have the Northeast and Caribbean Region be the vanguard in making it a reality,” she said.
