Ex-DOT secretary joins ICx Technologies board

Former Transportation Department Secretary Rodney Slater has been elected to the board of directors of ICx Technologies, a developer of advanced technology for homeland and military security.

Slater is a partner at the Patton Boggs law firm and a partner at James Lee Witt Associates, a crisis and emergency management consulting firm based in Washington, D.C.

He led the Federal Highway Administration from 1993 to 1997 and then served as DOT secretary from 1997 until 2001.

Before joining the Clinton administration, Slater was a member and chairman of the Arkansas Highway Commission.

Hans Kobler, president and chief executive officer of ICx, said Slater strengthened the federal government’s commitment to intelligent transportation systems and coordinated highly praised responses to the 1993 Midwest flooding; the 1994 Northridge, Calif., earthquake; and other natural disasters.

ICx manufactures advanced technologies that detect and identify chemical, biological, radiological and explosive materials. Its surveillance products discern people and objects invisible to conventional cameras, and its software and systems connect and control security devices.
