Labor seeks IT system for online forms
The Employee Benefits and Security Administration will release a request for proposals Sept. 1 for a wholly outsourced information technology system to process and store electronically filed forms.
The Labor Department’s Employee Benefits Security Administration announced today it will release a request for proposals Sept. 1 for a wholly outsourced information technology system called EFAST2 to process and store electronically filed forms, according to the Federal Business Opportunities Web site.
EFAST2 will allow the forms to be filed online. The system must receive and archive about 1.1 million forms annually to be submitted over the Internet by the public. The forms contain information on employee benefit plans, according to the department’s notice.
The contractor must design and develop the program and then operate it through a secure, searchable Web portal. The forms must be filed directly through the Web site. The system has to be Extensible Markup Language-based, according to the notice.
The department is requiring this system because of a new mandate of electronic filing of the form as part of a new regulation.
