OMB taps Ciafardini for E-gov position

The Office of Management and Budget has named former State Department official Andrew Ciafardini as its point man for improving the public’s access to and knowledge of e-government initiatives.Ciafardini will serve as the administration’s government-to-citizen e-government portfolio manager and will work with agencies to provide more information on benefits and resources online, as well as coordinate activities related to the SmartBuy procurement consolidation initiative.“Andrew believes in the fundamental value of improving government service to its citizens,” OMB director Rob Portman said in a statement. “His work helping the public to receive better information more effectively is good training for this position, and his management and operations expertise will be put to good use.”Prior to joining OMB, Ciafardini served as assistant chief of protocol for visits at the State Department, where he managed public relations and media affairs. He has also worked at the White House as deputy director of scheduling for research.He is a Cincinnati native and earned his bachelor’s degree from George Mason University of Fairfax, Va.
