SAP unit hires new VP

SAP has selected Rod Massey, a former chief information officer for Clark County, Nev., to lead the company’s global public-sector business unit, which aids governments and public organizations in improving economic viability and process efficiency.

As vice president of the unit, Massey will be responsible for managing and building strategic relationships with SAP’s government customers. He will report to Tom Shirk, president of SAP’s Global Public Services business unit. As a provider of enterprise business solutions to the public sector, SAP has more than 1,320 customers in 70 countries. The company is based in Waldorff, Germany.

Massey has more than 12 years of experience serving local government organizations, including the cities of Palo Alto and Milpitas, Calif., and Scottsdale, Ariz. As CIO for Clark County, Massey helped orchestrate a massive enterprise resource planning transformation project with SAP involving 2,600 county employees in more than 40 departments and agencies.

He has managed a diverse portfolio of IT services including strategic planning, organization and staffing, program and product management, and systems architecture, receiving numerous awards for his leadership. Massey is a co-author of the book “Smart Permit: A Blueprint for Success.”
