Federal Web managers win awards

NASA’s Employee Orientation Program Web site

The second annual Government Web Managers Best Practices Peer Awards went to NASA and the departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services, the General Services Administration announced today. The awards were given Sept. 19.

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and NASA won as Best Federal Web sites in the General Audiences category.

FSIS protects the public health through food safety and food defense.

“We are so honored to be recognized by other Web managers, who really understand the challenges and opportunities we face in managing a government Web site for the American public,” said Janet Stevens, director of Web Services at FSIS.

NASA’s Web portal shares the experience of space exploration through interactive media, live mission coverage and regular features on NASA’s work.

NASA’s Employee Orientation Web site and HHS’ Usability.gov won as Best Federal Web sites for Specialized Audiences.

NASA’s Employee Orientation Program Web site trains employees across all NASA centers and reduces processing and training costs.

Usability.gov presents federal Web managers with tools to make government Web sites useful to the public.

Government Web managers nominated 55 federal Web sites for the award. The Interagency Web Content Managers Forum, a group of more than 1,100 government Web managers, selected 11 finalists based on achievements in Web content, design and usability and performance.
