Janet Hale now at Deloitte & Touche

Janet Hale, who resigned as undersecretary for management at the Homeland Security Department in May, recently joined Deloitte & Touche as director of public-sector business transformation.

Hale brings more than two decades of government management experience to the company’s large-scale government transformation programs, a company announcement states.

“Government agencies are increasingly looking for best practices in both the commercial and government sectors to improve services and increase efficiency,” Hale said in the statement. “I hope to learn from what’s working in successful programs throughout the world, including the large corporate mergers that Deloitte & Touche is helping to lead, in order to bring new insights back to Deloitte & Touche’s federal government clients.”

She joined the consulting company after three years at DHS, where she was responsible for the integration of 22 government agencies and 180,000 employees into the department when it was formed. She also was in charge of the financial, information technology, workforce, procurement and administrative services of the $40 billion department.

DHS senior spokesman Larry Orluskie cited her commitment to the agency. “She stayed a year longer than she said she would stay when she first came on board," he said.

Before joining DHS, Hale was assistant secretary for budget, technology and finance at the Department of Health and Human Services. Her career also includes time at the Office of Management and Budget, the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development departments, and the House.

“Janet played a key role in one of the largest and most complex government reorganizations in history,” Greg Pellegrino, Deloitte Consulting’s global managing director for the public sector, said in the statement. “Her experience is unparalleled and our professionals are thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside Janet to help create public value through government transformation.”

Hale earned a bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Ohio and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
