FirstGov.gov’s prime contractor, Vivisimo, has selected search technologies provider Convera to support the image search at the government’s official Web portal, the company announced Oct. 17.
It will supplement the image index for FirstGov's new search. The added technology will provide access for users to the more than 1 billion images in the Convera Web index.
It has a product platform that makes sense of large amounts of information in multiple data formats, languages and meanings. The technologies extract relevant results from public and private data, enabling the quick retrieval of information.
The General Services Administration said Oct. 17 that it added to FirstGov’s search capabilities for finding news and images from official government sources. The features allow users to search data from those sources.
Convera has worked more than 10 years in the government market, its chief operating officer, Kurt Gastrock, said in a press release. Rebecca Thompson, vice president of marketing of Vivisimo, said the company was pleased to add Convera’s search technology to the team.
