FedEx Kinko's to help FEMA get word out in emergencies
When disaster strikes, FEMA will use GPOExpress to get print jobs done right away rather than go through a solicitation.
When disaster strikes, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has no time to post a solicitation for fliers and evacuation maps, so the agency has selected a new on-demand printing program offered by the Government Printing Office.
Through the program, called GPOExpress, employees can either go to a local FedEx Kinko’s branch or submit requests online for small print jobs.
GPO, which is responsible for distributing information about the work of the government to the public, entered into a business partnership with FedEx Kinko's in January to fulfill federal agencies’ last-minute needs.
According to an Oct. 18 announcement released by GPO, FEMA workers are using GPOExpress to distribute communications during response and recovery efforts.
GPOExpress offers agencies discounts on most FedEx Kinko’s services, including digital printing, scanning, binding and poster-making. FedEx shipping is also available.
"Saving on the cost of shipping, GPOExpress allows production to take place locally where the materials are immediately needed, helping our staff meet the needs of communities and disaster victims anywhere across the country," said Ken Brown, manager of FEMA's Printing Office.
