Navy SALTS contract goes to SI

The Naval Inventory Control Point in Mechanicsburg, Pa. has awarded SI International a new contract to upgrade and manage its Standard Automated Logistics Tool Set (SALTS) information system.

SALTS is a secure electronic data interchange program that provides the Defense Department with a means of moving logistical and administrative data from a single point of entry to a wide host of databases and data services worldwide.

According to an SI news release, the contract is worth about $3.65 million, and includes a one-year base and one-year option period.

SI will oversee computer operations, network engineering, information handling and exchange, information assurance, training and information technology initiatives.

SI said there are currently 995 SALTS customers throughout DOD. Customers include all U.S. Navy ships and shore commands, Military Sealift Command ships, the U.S. Marine Corps Aviation community, onboard Army ships, and supporting commands and other organizations including U.S. embassies and the Defense Logistics Agency.
