Former DHS Secretary Tom Ridge will be senior adviser to Deloitte’s State Government Practice.
Former Homeland Security Department Secretary Tom Ridge has joined Deloitte and Touche USA as a consultant, the company announced today.
In addition to his private consulting work, Ridge will be senior adviser to Deloitte’s State Government Practice and counsel clients on issues, challenges and trends that governors and states face.
Ridge’s specific areas of focus will include how to effectively use information technology to transform government, improve education performance and aid states’ abilities to serve those most in need, Deloitte said.
Ridge served two terms as governor of Pennsylvania. As governor, he led numerous IT initiatives to transform the delivery of state government services. He was a leader in implementing enterprisewide technologies to improve customer service and cut costs, Deloitte added.
Ridge was assistant district attorney in Erie County, Pa., from 1980 to 1982, when he was the first enlisted Vietnam combat veteran elected to Congress. After serving six terms in Congress he was elected governor of Pennsylvania in 1994.
Ridge was an active member of the National Governors Association, fostering issues affecting the states such as transportation infrastructure, telecommunications, and science and technology development.
“With his experience as a leader at both the state and federal levels, Tom Ridge brings an extraordinary perspective on the major issues affecting state governments,” said James Quigley, chief executive officer of Deloitte and Touche USA, in the statement.
