ACT/IAC donates $150K to house disabled vets

The American Council for Technology and the Industry Advisory Council are donating $150,000 to Homes for Our Troops. The money was raised at a charity gala Sept. 9, at Union Station in Washington, D.C., the ACT/IAC said today.

The ACT/IAC event brought together more than 450 government and industry attendees for an evening that included Homes for Our Troops founder John Gonsalves and Joseph Worley, a veteran who has benefited from the charity’s work

Homes for Our Troops, a nonprofit organization, raises funds to build homes for disabled veterans and their families. The organization has completed eight homes in five states and is working on 12 projects in 10 states.

Gonsalves founded the organization in 2004 in response to the 2001 terrorist attacks and the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

At the gala, Gonsalves presented Worley with the keys to his recently completed home.

“Homes for Our Troops goes above and beyond the call of duty in embracing values that we share by making a real difference in the lives of such important public servants,” said Barry West, president of ACT.
