Gardner to become National Weather Service CIO
His first priority will be security measures, said Adrian Gardner, who was deputy associate CIO for cybersecurity at the Energy Department.
The Energy Department's Adrian Gardner will become the National Weather Service's new chief information officer, starting Jan. 8. He previously worked as Energy's deputy associate CIO of cybersecurity.“I'm excited about the position,” Gardner said. His main priority will be security, he added.“That is the main thing that I'm working to address,” Gardner said. “I know that there's challenges facing the weather service that I'm equipped to handle.”He also said he will work closely with the CIOs at NWS’ parent agencies, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Commerce Department.Gardner replaces Paul Chan, who was the weather service’s CIO since July 2004. Before Chan, Barry West held the position. West is now CIO at Commerce.
