Carnegie Mellon certifies EA grads

A handful of government sector practitioners were among the first group to graduate from an enterprise architecture program at Carnegie Mellon University.The program, a collaboration between the university’s Institute for Software Research International and software vendor Telelogic, consists of three courses: basic, applied and advanced. Each course leads to a certificate of completion from Telelogic and the institute. Students completing the final course earn an enterprise architect certification from Carnegie Mellon.Hal Gill, senior enterprise architect at McLean, Va.-based Global Tech and a program participant, said his enterprise architecture certification provides the means “to demonstrate credibility in the field.”Gill’s latest assignment is consulting to the Education Department’s chief enterprise architect.Gill said the three courses took 13 days to complete, but added that the sessions were spread over several months.Other program graduates include two BAE Systems employees, according to a Telelogic spokeswoman.Courses will be offered on a regular basis in Reston, Va., Chicago and Irvine, Calif. Telelogic provides the instructors for the courses, while the institute provides course materials. Coursework covers the challenges and benefits of enterprise architecture and implementation approaches.
