Crenshaw to be executive director at Grant Thornton

Vice Adm. Lewis Crenshaw will join the Global Public Sector practice of Grant Thornton, the U.S. member firm of Grant Thornton International, as executive director, the company announced today. He starts March 26.

Most recently, Crenshaw was deputy chief of naval operations for resources and requirements at the Navy Department. Previously, he was commander of Navy Region Europe and deputy commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe, based in London. Before that, Crenshaw was director of the Assessments Division at the department.

Crenshaw has more than 20 years of executive experience in various leadership positions at military organizations ranging in size from 300 to 12,000 people. In the strategic planning area, he has helped develop three successive Navy budgets that allowed for the stabilization of a 313-ship, long-range construction plan that saved more than $1 billion in a year. Additionally, he developed three comprehensive Navy budgets that produced unprecedented combat readiness while maintaining the necessary investments to recapitalize the Navy's aging fleet.

Crenshaw was also active in change management, implementing a fundamental shift in the Navy's budgeting process from a requirements-based process to a capabilities-based one, refocusing resources on output of specific measurable capabilities to meet the demands of operation fleet commanders.
