Butler moves to GSA permanently

Mike Butler joins the agency as a program analyst to work on HSPD-12.

Mike Butler liked his detail at the General Services Administration last year so much, he went back permanently. In one of the worst-kept secrets in government, Butler earlier this week officially joined GSA as a program analyst to work on Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12. Butler, who also is the outgoing chairman of the Interagency Smart Card Advisory Board, leaves the Defense Department’s Defense Manpower Data Center after being director of smart card programs and operations in DOD’s Access Card Office since May 2000. He came to GSA in June 2006 to help the government meet the last October's initial HSPD-12 deadline. After that, Butler went back to DOD until he decided to take a full-time position at GSA. Butler worked extensively with DOD’s Common Access Card and the Navy’s smart card programs in the late 1990s.
