Integrator taps Baker as CEO

Roger Baker, a veteran government and industry executive, has been named president and chief executive officer of Dataline, a systems integrator based in Norfolk, Va.

Baker most recently was vice president of information technology and chief information officer for General Dynamics' IT unit. He also was executive vice president and general manager of telecommunication and information assurance at CACI International. Before coming to the private sector, Baker was CIO at the Commerce Department.

His hiring by Dataline comes on the heels of the company’s purchase by DLN Holdings, a part of the White Oak Group, an Atlanta private-equity firm. The deal was announced May 1.

“This is an exciting time for Dataline, as it now has the financial backing to make investments in its key growth areas of IT solutions, military communications and critical infrastructure protection,” Baker said.

White Oak also owns DataPath, a Duluth, Ga., company that specializes in civilian and military satellite communications. White Oak has backed several acquisitions by DataPath. DataPath is ranked No. 47 on Washington Technology’s 2007 Top 100 list of the largest government contractors.

The equity group also has acquisition plans for Dataline, saying in a statement that it will use the company as a platform to acquire other government contractors.
