Career conference gets Web savvy

The Office of Personnel Management and the Partnership for Public Service are relying on the Web to draw a bigger audience to their Virtual National Career Services Conference, which starts online today.The last time the two groups teamed for a career services conference in 2003, they held it in Washington and attracted about 400 attendees. OPM Director Linda Springer said the online conference will “have the potential to reach a much greater audience throughout the nation and at a much lower cost."The conference aims to give university career services professionals the tools to help students find employment opportunities in the federal government.The conference is targeted to the 600 colleges and universities involved in the Call to Serve initiative, according to a press release. The goal of that joint effort by OPM and the partnership is to provide students with information about federal jobs.The conference began with a session titled "Finding and Applying for Jobs with the Federal Government."Sessions run through June 7 on OPM's and the partnership's Web sites and will be available for download on June 8.
