Senate confirms new Army CIO

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Sorenson to the post of chief information officer/G-6 of the Army. With his confirmation, Sorenson, who was nominated to be Army CIO in February, received a promotion from the rank of major general to lieutenant general. Sorenson replaces the former Army CIO, retired Lt. Gen. Steven Boutelle. Sorenson has more than 20 years' experience in military information technology acquisition and has directed numerous science and technology integration programs for the Army. Before his nomination as Army CIO, he was deputy for acquisition and systems management at the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisitions, Logistics and Technology. Sorenson attended the U.S. Military Academy and holds an M.B.A. from Northwestern University, where he majored in finance, accounting and decision sciences. He has graduated from the Program Manager and Executive Program Manager courses at the Defense System Management College; the Armed Forces Staff College; and the Army War College. He is a registered certified public accountant in Illinois. , .
