GSA, DOD sign SmartBuy deal for records management software

The General Services Administration and the Defense Department signed Point One to the first of what could be many enterprise software license deals for data and records management software. GSA asked for proposals in August from more than 1,300 vendors providing similar software. GSA and DOD announced today that Point One signed a SmartBuy agreement to provide server licenses, server maintenance, perpetual enterprise agreements and maintenance, annual subscription licenses, and electronic data and records management training. GSA had been looking at SmartBuy deals for records management software since February when it first put out a notice on the Federal Business Opportunities Web site. Under SmartBuy, GSA now has 15 deals for software including database, network management and enterprise resource planning. It also has 11 agreements for software under the Data At Rest SmartBuy program. Agencies would save as much as 38 percent off the GSA schedule when purchasing Point One products, the agency said in a release. Other SmartBuy contracts are in the works, including one for time-and-attendance software, officials said. SmartBuy helped the government avoid more than $133 million in software costs in fiscal 2007.
