Letter: IRS needs to set up direct e-filing

One reader says third-party providers charge outrageous fees to file tax returns electronically.

Regarding “Oversight board: IRS can reach e-filing goal of 80 percent by 2012”: The Internal Revenue Service needs to set up a system for individual taxpayers to file directly with the IRS versus going through a non-value-add third-party provider.

I have prepared my tax returns electronically since first available, but I file paper because third-party provider fees are outrageous! $0.41 or $15? That’s a no-brainer.
