Bush nominates new DHS undersecretary for management

President Bush has nominated Elaine Duke to be the Homeland Security Department's undersecretary for management, a promotion from her current position as DHS' deputy undersecretary for management. The post carries some duties concerning information technology.Duke became DHS' first deputy undersecretary for management last October. Before becoming deputy undersecretary for management, Duke served in a variety of homeland security roles since 2002, They included being the Transportation Security Administration’s deputy assistant administrator for acquisitions, deputy chief procurement officer and chief procurement officer. If confirmed in her new job by the Senate, Duke's duties will include managing the department’s budget, appropriations, expenditures of funds, procurement, human resources, information technology systems, and facilities and property management.
