(R-Va.) apparently liked the editorial cartoon that ran in Federal Computer Week’s Feb. 18 issue. In fact, Davis liked it enough to mention it in his press release announcing the creation of a Smart Contracting Caucus.The caucus, formed by Davis and three other House members, is intended to get more lawmakers and staff members involved in federal contracting. In Davis’ press release announcing the formation of the caucus, he specifically mentioned the work of our cartoonist . The cartoon depicted members of Congress at Davis’ retirement party attempting to hook up a complicated device labeled “procurement minutiae.”“It was funny and flattering, but it’s not accurate,” Davis said. Davis said he’s had an advantage in this area over other House members because of his background in procurement law. However, plenty of other procurement leaders are ready to take up the cause, he said. “Unfortunately, we also have some who would sacrifice smart procurement for short-term political gain. It’s time [for] those of us who get it to do something to broaden our number and our voice.”of Qwest Communications International received the lifetime achievement award from Women in Technology during the group’s annual leadership awards gala. Murray, business development principal at Qwest, was one of several winners recognized last month. It was the ninth annual awards program for the Washington area organization.
