Letter: Real ID is leading to a global ID

A reader questions whether Real ID is good for U.S. citizens.

Regarding "Want to fly? Get Real ID": Real ID, which is unconstitutional, violates the 4th and 10th Amendments. Real ID is a scam, just like so many other laws that are passed secretly, without the American people's permission. Real ID happens to also be an unfunded mandate.

On March 31, an extension was granted to all 50 states to comply with Real ID by Dec. 31, 2009, instead of May 11. Many states are against Real ID and its extension. One could say that the extension, along with the Real ID, was not a choice but was forced, without much attention or consideration for the well-being of every American, on the 50 states.

If Real ID was such a good thing, then the information would have been exposed enough so that the people could see it. But since it wasn't, that means it is deceptive. The reason for Real ID, was because of the 2001 terrorist attacks and the millions of illegal immigrants crossing the border, along with giving hijackers legal identification. If Real ID was good for America, then why would our government send 170,000 troops to the Middle East to prevent terrorists from coming over here while leaving our borders open?

Wake up, America. If your documents leave your hand at the Department of Motor Vehicles and are scanned, you will never be able to get it back out. Real ID is a national ID, which is leading to a global ID.
