Letter: Seniority rights for feds are gone
A reader writes that job security and seniority rights are being lost with NSPS and the retention of less-experienced employees.
Regarding "Unions expect to negotiate new rules": Beyond, many of the rights that the civilian worker will find themselves without, the greatest right lost by the civilian employee is the right of seniority.
Now the federal government can force out a well-paid worker for one who has only been in federal system for a short period of time. The dedicated worker no longer has any job security which was one of the primary reasons for taking a job in the federal government.
In the future months to come with a recession that the has been going on for the past six months, the federal employee will now experience federal government layoffs. As hard-working federal employees are shown the door, their bitterness will be doubled when their new bosses of one, two, or three years hand them their pink slips or their bosses under [National Security Personnel System] choose to retain the two-year employee over one that has tenure.
