FCW Insider: Denett to leave OFPP in September
We have been hearing rumors for weeks that was getting ready to leave his post as the administrator of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy. This morning, we are hearing that Denett has, in fact, told OMB officials that he will be leaving OFPP at the beginning of September. It is unclear if Denett has a job lined up.Denett's departure, while widely expected, comes , the long-time OFPP deputy administrator. Leslie Field .Denett entered the OFPP job at a very difficult time, following the arrest of David Safavian, the former OFPP administrator. So he has earned a lot of respect for taking the reins at that point. But there are also flock of people who have been disappointed by Denett. He was seen as good with policy issues, but some procurement and acquisition workers were frustrated that he wasn't out in the community more. He is renowned for leaving the office at 5p every day. And he did not attend Burton's retirement festivities because... they were held after 5p. One sometimes hears stories like this and it is difficult to assess them. One hopes we have moved beyond clock watching management and assess people on what they actually accomplish. It is also impossible to assess what else people have going on in their lives that we may not know about. That being said,Denett's presence was noticeably absent at Burton's retirement gathering. We'll post a FCW.com poll question asking you to assess Denett's tenure... and comments always welcome.
