CIO Council creates security committee

The new panel will advise on security and identity management.

“The council membership is looking forward to working with the new committee leadership to share best practices and achieve results for the departments and agencies as well as the American citizen," said Karen Evans, director of the CIO Council and administrator for e-government and information technology at the Office of Management and Budget. “We believe the new committee structure reflects the importance of the security issues CIOs are addressing daily.”

The Chief Information Officers Council has created a new committee to address security and identity management issues.

The Security and Identity Management Committee will join the council's existing portfolio of committees. The panel will examine the continuing critical need to improve and coordinate a secure, well-protected national cyber infrastructure.

The committee also will address needed standards for identity management consistent with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12.

Navy CIO Robert Carey and Justice Department CIO Vance Hitch will co-chair the committee.
