Letter: Gov't should hold contractors responsible
A reader finds poor government oversight is an issue "The type of contract (pricing arrangement) isn't the problem. Having enough competent government employees to oversee the contractors is."
Regarding "GAO: DOD wastes billions on weapons contracts": Both Mr. Waxman and Mr. Findley are correct. Contractors wouldn't take a major weapons system contract on a fixed-price basis
simply because we (the government) can't adequately define its requirements! And the government is not holding contractors responsible for the quality of their work.
The type of contract (pricing arrangement) isn't the problem. Having enough competent government employees to oversee the contractors is.
Until we address that problem the overruns won't go away.
