New DHS deputy CIO named

Margie Graves is taking over as the Homeland Security Department’s new deputy chief information officer, a career position, according to a spokesman for the department.

The new deputy CIO will help provide continuity for the Office of the Chief Information Officer as DHS goes through its first change in administrations. DHS’ CIO, Richard Mangogna, is a political appointee whose tenure began in April. He will leave at the end of the administration.

In her new role, Graves will be responsible for managing and directing information management support processes and combining the functions of information technology and telecommunications, said Larry Orluskie, a DHS spokesman. She will also provide executive-level direction in planning, implementing and evaluating long-range IT activities for the department, he said.

Graves was previously the director of DHS’ Enterprise Management Business Office, which supported the CIO by establishing enterprise strategies IT services. She has been with DHS since August 2003 and with the CIO's office since March 2004.
