From ELC: Federal workforce could change with new administration
The evolving federal workforce could be due for significant changes after the new president takes office.
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Now is the time for federal managers to step up their recruiting and hiring efforts, according to a panelist at the Executive Leadership Conference.
Kevin Caroll, president of the Kevin Carroll Group, pointed to uncertainty in the private-sector job market. "There are a lot of attractive things about a government job right now," he said. "I think we don't take advantage of that. That's an important thing to get under control."
Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama has pledged to cut the federal workforce, and the government's use of contractors is always under scrutiny. But other panelists, in response to an audience member's question, said pressure to reduce their costs is nothing new.
