Letter: New GSA office will create more problems than it solves

A reader writes that GSA's MAS Program Office creates another level of bureaucracy.

Regarding "New office will manage schedules contracts": I am a client of the General Services Administration and depend on Multiple Award Schedules for much of our federal sales.

From my perspective, this latest move is awful and will solve none of the problems but rather create just another level of bureaucracy that will need to be navigated. You can almost feel it now: When questions arise and speedy decisions are needed, they will be deferred to yet another layer of GSA management.

Worst of all, this will undo all the progress that GSA had been making to try and speed things up, reduce bureaucratic levels, and reinforce the role of the frontline managers and contracting officers. GSA had been moving in the right direction, and things were getting better.

It looks as if the new GSA administrator is saying he does not have faith in his own MAS team to make the right decisions, so a new layer of management is to be constructed and layered on top of the existing organization. That's too bad.

I guess GSA should expect more defections from MAS as GSA decision-making drags out, driving up costs and increasing frustrations.
