Letter: High expectations for incoming administration

Regarding "Acquisition leaders concerned about eroding workforce"

It occurs to me that the expectations of any administration, or of the Government Accountability Office or inspector general regarding improvements in the procurement process, may be unreasonable.

The article stated: "The respondents recommended that the incoming Obama administration make strong efforts to deal with the workforce's training and hiring needs while taking a broader view of oversight to make sure policies are sensible."

If one is limited due to training budget and travel restraints to training 40 procurement personnel per month, then only 1,920 can be trained in one four-year administrative cycle (presidiential, that is). Results won't be seen for at least a couple of years after that.

Seems like there will either need to be an extremely hard push for greatly expanded training budgets, and associated travel, and procedures that are developed with the expertise of consultants who have helped large private corporations reduce the expenses of procurement or they will have to content themselves with minor tweaking of the status quo.

Anything else, in my opinion, would be unreasonable.
