Transition Watch: Obama's e-gov vision will take time

It remains to be seen whether Team Obama's successful use of Web 2.0 technologies during the presidential campaign and transition will translate to into a new era of e-government.

Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and transition team effectively used Web 2.0 tools to engage his supporters, but it remains to be seen how and if those methods will translate to electronic government, according to a PC World report.

Speakers at a recent conference hosted by Google pointed that many federal agencies still don’t post their information to the World Wide Web or have limited resources to do so, while others questioned just how much of the government’s work the public could directly contribute to online.

There’s a lot of feel-good sentiment about such participation but there are multiple challenges; conference participants said it will be up to the Obama administration to fight for it.
