Hopkins is the staff member responsible for information technology, cybersecurity and records management for the Federal Financial Management Subcommittee, led by chairman Sen. Tom Carper, (D-Del.).

Hopkins worked closely with the Office of Management and Budget to make available to the public its application for viewing data about agency IT projects that are at risk because of their size or management issues. The application, Visualization for Understanding Expenditures in Information Technology, or Vue-IT, is designed to increase transparency of agency IT investments by letting users track agency data about IT investments and their status on the Management Watch List and High Risk List.

OMB released it publicly because of his diligence in gathering as much information as possible to conduct proper oversight, said Karen Evans, former OMB administrator for e-government and IT.

“Erik is tough in his questions, but he is fair,” Evans said.
