Senate committee OKs CTO nominee
Aneesh Chopra is one step closer to becoming the first federal chief technology officer after winning unanimous support from the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee.
The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee has approved the nomination of Aneesh Chopra as the first federal chief technology officer, a committee staff member confirmed today.
The vote was held May 20 during an executive session, the staff member said. If confirmed by the full Senate, Chopra will also serve as an associate director for technology in the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy.
During his confirmation hearing May 19, Chopra said he wants to use technology to help with issues such as economic recovery and health care.
Chopra currently serves as Virginia’s secretary of technology.
