Clay Johnson

Johnson was involved in a number of cutting-edge initiatives to improve government openness and accountability in his role as director of Sunlight Labs, an open-source development team at the Sunlight Foundation. He is adept at finding ways to make government data available to the public in easy-to-read formats.

He also writes blogs and speaks about open-government issues and plays an active role in the Apps for America competition that Sunlight Labs sponsors, which rewards developers for designing compelling applications that use government data.

“Clay proved himself to be a catalyst for improving collaboration between the government and its citizens,” said Michael Howell, deputy administrator of e-government and information technology at the Office of Management and Budget.
