Federal 100: Jeff Eagan

Under Eagan’s leadership, DOE became the first agency to surpass the government's green targets for electronics procurement, operations and recycling.

Eagan traveled to DOE locations nationwide to build green computing teams and assembled a broad coalition of employees to tackle challenges such as power management and thin-client computing. As a result, DOE was able to save more than $16 million in annual utility fees and prevent the release of 33,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases.

He raised the bar for greener energy and environmental computing for the entire government, said Josh Silverman, deputy director of DOE's Office of Environmental Policy and Assistance, adding that Eagan's contribution goes beyond cost savings. “Electronics stewardship promises a viable, sustainable strategy to address and help solve the problem of climate change,” Silverman said.
