Trudeau’s organization played a pivotal role in President Barack Obama’s Open Government Initiative by hosting the Web site that collected ideas from the public during the project’s brainstorming phase.

More than 1,000 of those ideas became part of the Open Government Directive, and Trudeau’s work became a model for similar efforts at federal agencies.

"Lena and the team at NAPA were absolutely critical in developing the Open Government Directive," said Steve Ressler, founder of government-themed social network GovLoop. "Lena's passion for new ways of engagement combined with a cross-agency platform has created long-lasting improvements in the way government is collaborating with citizens. She can talk to all sides — from the innovators to the skeptics — and build consensus toward making real change."
