Vietmeyer led the creation of SoftwareForge, a collaborative environment for shared development of open-source and Defense Department community software. The Web site houses projects, source code and associated artifacts from more than 160 DOD projects and has 3,700 users.
Through his push for open technology, Vietmeyer is helping to streamline DOD’s software development life cycle and provide more effective, less costly tools for warfighters.
“Rob is one of our top developers and has the unique ability to take a vision into a real solution in a short time frame,” said Joseph Angelone, DISA’s deputy chief technology officer. “Once we secured the funds for Rob, he was off and running, with capability delivered in six months.”
