Federal 100: Robert Neilson
Robert Neilson
Knowledge Management Adviser to the Chief Information Officer
Army Department
Neilson’s job is to foster the kind of collaborative culture that will generate and share the information and knowledge the Army needs to achieve its objectives.
That’s been easier said than done in the past, said Dennis Lucey, vice president of strategic accounts at TKC Global, because the Army, like many institutions, “sometimes has a short memory.”
Neilson circumvented that problem by developing 12 short Army Knowledge Management Principles that everyone could remember and coupled them with explanations of why the principles are important. They are now posted on the Army Knowledge Online Web portal.
“He went well beyond normal government mandates to completely resurrect knowledge management efforts for the Army,” Lucey said.
