FedScoop, health IT conferences commence
A pair of conferences in Washington get under way and feature government executives speaking about innovation and other IT-related issues.
A General Services Administration director will discuss the agency’s new open government platform, while a Veterans Affairs executive will announce winners of a wireless innovation competition, during two large government technology conferences going on today.
Gwynne Kostin, a director at the GSA’s Center for New Media and Citizen Engagement in the Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies, will talk about Challenge.gov and other GSA initiatives that encourage participation by the public at the FedScoop’s FedTalks 2010 conference.
Other featured government speakers at FedTalks include VA Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Peter Levin, NASA CIO Linda Cureton, NASA CTO Chris Kemp, and David Dejewski, division head, customer relations, inspector general audits and congressional inquiries, at the Defense Department's Business Transformation Agency.
Political pundits and a comedian round out the list of FedTalks speakers, including Huffington Post's Arianna Huffington, Craigslist founder Craig Newmark, former Wonkette blogger Ana Marie Cox and comedian GoRemy.

"FedTalks 2010 will bring the best and brightest from the community back together to discuss real examples of how technology can change government,” Goldy Kamali, chief executive of FedScoop, said in a news release.
Meanwhile, at the Health Care Innovation Day conference today, officials from the VA and the nonprofit West Wireless Health Institute will discuss the VA Innovation Initiative (VAi2) and to announce the telehealth winners of the VA’s 2010 Industry Innovation Competition, according to a news release.
Speakers also will launch a new $10,000 innovation contest, according to The Hill newspaper. The goal is to spur innovation in wireless solutions for health care, including telehealth and telemedicine solutions.
Speakers include White House CTO Aneesh Chopra, VA Deputy Secretary Scott Gould, VA CTO Peter Levin and Health and Human Services CTO Todd Park.
