Deputy CTO leaving White House

White House Gov 2.0 leader Beth Noveck is returning to academia on Jan. 15 after nearly two years of promoting federal transparency programs, according to a Jan. 9 report from O’Reilly Media.

Noveck is the director of the White House Open Government Initiative and U.S. deputy CTO who will return to her post as professor of law at New York Law School, from which she took a leave of absence to join the White House in March 2009.

Noveck was active in promoting numerous transparency programs, including President Barack Obama’s Open Government Directive and the open data movement on Data.gov. She was based in the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Comments from Noveck's more than 1,600 Twitter followers were coming in today after the news of her departure. Noveck is a fan of the micro-blogging site, posting "Could we even have open government sans Twitter?" on Jan. 5.
