Federal IT community mourns loss of Carleton Jones
Jones, 68, had served in top leadership roles with Indus and other federal IT firms.
The federal IT industry has lost one of its most prominent executives of the past two decades.
Carleton Jones, who died of cancer May 16 at age 68, was vice chairman emeritus and president emeritus of Indus Corp., an IT services firm. He joined Indus as vice chairman in May 2008 and became president in November 2008.
Jones entered the federal market in 1992 when he joined Sysorex Information Systems, serving as general counsel, senior vice president and finally president. When Sysorex was bought by Vanstar in 1997, he served as president of Vanstar Government Systems until he left the company in 1998.
He later served as CEO of Multimax before its acquisition by Harris Corp.
Jones, who received his law degree from Yale Law School, won the Federal 100 award from Federal Computer Week in 2000.
