FAA's SWIM program is drowning
Audit finds vital Federal Aviation Administration program flawed.
A Federal Aviation Administration program designed to streamline data communications among all NextGen air traffic systems has no clear path for achieving its goals, according to an audit issued June 15 by the Transportation Department’s Inspector General's Office.
The audit found that the System Wide Information Management (SWIM) program, still in its early development stages, is more than $100 million over budget and is running behind schedule by two years.
The FAA has agreed with the IG's six recommendations for organizing SWIM to mitigate further costs and delays.
