Agencies looking to save millions are giving up the status quo and adopting virtual workplace policies.
That Starbucks around the corner can mean big savings for federal agencies seeking to provide virtual workplaces for their employees, especially those who travel long distances between a job site and the office.
The Labor Department, NASA, and the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) are spending on mobile gear to allow workers to move to telework – with savings potentially in the millions, reports the Federal Times.
For example, DCMA plans to save $5 million by 2014 by ditching all but 1,000 of its 13,000 desktop computers, the article said.
