Telework fosters productivity, study says

Employees can be more productive in a telework arrangement, according to a recent study.

A recent Staples survey said 76 percent of teleworkers put in more hours because of the arrangement, writes Laura Vanderkam on her “Life at Work” blog on Bnet.com.

In addition, 80 percent of teleworkers surveyed reported an improved work-life balance which can be caused largely to having no commute, the article said.

Along the same lines, a Brigham Young University study of IBM workers found that when people teleworked and set their own hours they were able to work about 57 hours per week, as opposed to just 38 hours per week when commuting to the office, writes Vanderkam.
