Telework can affect locality pay

Depending on where and how many days per week a fed teleworks, locality pay could be affected.

Federal employees entitled to locality pay that depends on where their job is located may not receive the same arrangement if they telecommute regularly, reports Fedsmith.

If a person's home is outside the vicinity of their locality pay, the worker is not still entitled to the locality pay where the agency is located, writes Robert Dietrich, a federal human resources officer for 37 years.

However, feds are entitled to locality pay where their home office is, if applicable, which could be higher or lower than before, but pay benefits wouldn't be affected if the employee telecommutes one or two days per week.
